The global automotive industry is dominated by Japanese companies leading its way towards disruptive innovations. One such company is Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japanese multinational corporation manufacturing automobiles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, wheelchairs and a variety of other small internal combustion engines.

Tracing Suzuki’s History
The company’s history goes back to 1909 when Michio Suzuki started business as Suzuki Loom Works in the small seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Japan. In 1937, the company began a project to develop small, affordable cars. However, the production plans for Suzuki's new vehicles were disrupted due to the Second World War. After the war, Suzuki made a two-stroke motorized bicycle, but eventually, the company would be known for Hayabusa and GSX-R motorcycles, for the QuadRunner, and for dominating racetracks around the world. In 1955, Michio got pretty sick of looms and decided to make cool stuff; introducing Suzuki’s first car, the Suzulight. The car included front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering; features that were not easily found on other automobiles. Even after producing its first car in 1955, the company didn't have an automobile division until 1961. In 1961, the loom machine division was separated from the motor works as “Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company”.

Awards & Accolades
Currently, the company offers a full range of cars, SUVs and commercials, including Vitara, Swift Sport, Swift, Jimny, Baleno, S-Cross and Ignis. Last year, the Suzuki Jimny won the 2019 World Urban Car Of The Year award at the New York International Auto Show. The model has been loved by customers around the world for nearly 50 years since its launch in 1970. In 2017, the Suzuki Vitara was awarded ‘2017 Drive Car of the Year: Best City SUV’ in Australia for the third year in a row. The car’s engine was described as one of the best in the segment with excellent driving dynamics along with good handling, steering, and agility. Today Suzuki is among the world's largest automakers, and a major brand name in important markets, including Japan and India, but no longer sells cars in North America.  In 2016, Suzuki was the eleventh biggest automaker by production worldwide.
